@tolsted: I checked your site again and still I could not find any issues. Please try clearing the browser cache at your end and try viewing the site from some other devices.

This is how your site appears at my end while viewing in mobile view and desktop view is also fine. I checked on chrome as well.

Go to Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Front Page Category Setting

Under Front Page Category : Make sure All categories is selected.

I recommend you not to edit the parent theme directly, you will need to create a child theme. If you are familiar with child theme please let me know. It cannot be corrected with the help of css.

@toerfiets : It looks like you have not enabled the sidebar from layout options.
Login to your WordPress dashboard.
Go to Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Layout Options

Under Default Layout : Select Primary sidebar, Content OR Content, Primary Sidebar.

@toerfiets : If you would like to display the content on the homepage of your site you will need to use Optional Homepage Sidebar instead of other sidebars. If you use the optional Homepage Sidebar the Primary Sidebar Content will not be displayed on Homepage of your site.
