You can use the ECT Testimonial Shortcode for adding testimonial.
Edit the page where you want to add ect testimonial => Add a new block => Add Shortcode widget => Insert the testimonial shortcode and Update the page.

The grey portion is showing of because you have enable Featured Slider section.

Go to => Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Featured Slider => Enable on => Select Disable and Publish.
