I am not sure I can quite explain my question well..

on my site test4.franciscanfriars.org I am building a website with lots of pictures. I am using the maximum number of slider images, 12, and everything seems fine.. I uploaded a variety of images of different resolutions, everything looks fine and seems to load quickly…

But when I started to upload several header images, and chose to randomize them, I found that they load slowly! I currently have 17 different header images that I am randomizing. They all seem to take a noticeably long time to load… I’ve experimented some with different number of pixels, and compression, trying to get file sizes of the images smaller… Am I going down the right road?? I know the recommended header image size is 1680 x 720. I have reduced some images to 840 x 360 and that makes the file size smaller… also I can compress the images to make the file size yet smaller, but at some point image quality suffers… is there a recommended file size (in addition to pixel size) that makes loading time reasonable?

@friarpaul : when you randomize header images, it will definitely take longer than loading a single header image. When you have a single header image, the image is cached and the image is served from cache rather than from the server but when you randomize images every time the image needs to be loaded from the server because images are changed on each page load. I don’t think its an issue because when you load different images on each page load it will take a bit more time to load. IF you would like to get your header to load faster, use a single image as a header image. Try to minimize the file size as lower as possible. Let me know if you have any theme related issues.

thanks, so then here is a Theme related question (as I try to minimize size of all my images):

I know your FEATURED SLIDER image recommended size is 1680 px by 720 px. That size looks nice on large screen, but on mobile phone and tablet, it is too small for me (in height). To get a size I like on mobile requires me to use an image bigger than 720 px in height for the Featured slider image I download.

Is there a way to download and use 1680 x 720 px image for the Featured Slider image, and just force the image to have a higher height on a mobile screen?

(I am guessing the answer is no, but thought I’d try!)

    Thanks.

@friarpaul : You can force the image to a greater height but the image will be stretched and the aspect ratio will not be maintained. When you increase the height only the responsive design of the site will be lost. It looks fine from my end. The height and width need to maintain a certain ratio so that the image are not stretched on every devices. Let me know if you have any more issues.

OK Thanks… I found the problem to my upload speed problems… it really (as you suggested) had nothing to do with your theme. Your theme is looking and working GREAT!!!!! I LOVE THIS THEME! Bye.
