Hi community,

I am a WordPress newbie. I have two questions:

I had the idea of communicating my research findings in a vivid way to interested people. Here is my website (it is still not available for search engines and it needs language tuning etc…): LINK.

I love the idea with the featured content and the slider. As you can see, I use several pages to talk about my research, teaching etc, and I have a blog for frequent updates. I would like to use the large slider on the main page to promote some pages (e.g., my research areas). Additionally, I would like to use the featured content to promote some blog postings that I find most interesting. As far as I understand, I can only feature pages (not blog postings). Is that correct? If not, how can I link particular postings? (HERE is a screenshot of what I see)

Also, I modified a little bit on the CSS file because I found that font sizes were too large (especially the date/comments etc text for each blog posting). When I changed that, all other icons (social media icons, search icons etc) on the top of the page also became much smaller.

@Florence: Sorry you cannot mix “Featured Image Slider” and “Featured Post Slider” as these two have different functions.

If you want to hide the content in your “Featured Post Slider” then you can add the following css in “Appearance => Theme Options => Custom CSS” box:
#main-slider .entry-container { display: none; }

Also you can use “Featured Image Slider” and for 3 languages text in slider, you can use plugin like WPML or Polylang. You can add image and title, then install any of these plugin. After that go that those plugin string translation and translate it.

About the logo, we are using WordPress default custom header. So, if you those plugin have option to add in then you can.

Hi,

I would like to “mix” simple images and posts (with text and link) in the content slider. Problem : the site is in 3 languages, so I can’t place “images”, because I can’t translate the title or the content…
Is there another way ?
Can I enable/desable the textbox on a post slider?

Another question :
As the website is in 3 languagues, is it possible to have a different logo in the header for each language?

hi, i bought this theme, but when i try add more sliders in featured slider,s i change 4 to six or seven then i save the changes, but, changes don´t take effect, please let me know how to resolve thsi trouble

@matthewseanmclachlan: In Catch Flames Pro, you can go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Slider => Slider Options” and in slider type, you can select “featured Image Slider”. Then you can upload image of any size you like.

The texts I place on the Featured slider isn’t visible because the pictures, but they become visible when I hover over them, the texts gets a grey background when hovered upon. How can I retain that grey background with or without hovering on it.

@Susie: We have option to display Featured Content either in Homepage only or Entire Site. There is no option to make that Featured Content only appear on specific pages. You might have to look for plugin to add featured content in pages.

But you can make that features slider to show on “Entire Site” from “Appearance => Customize => Featured Content => Featured Content Options => Enable Featured Content on” and the add in css to hide in all pages and show only in that pages. If you want to do this, then enable it in all pages and send me the page url where you want to show it only.

I am using catch responsive theme. I did update my theme today to catchresponsive version 1.8 today morning. After which the featured slider image wont load.

My website was working fine until last night. However, the featured image slider is not loading since today morning. I tried to completely uninstall and re-install the theme, however, it still wont load. I also tried to reset all settings and then presume, still the featured image slider for pages does not load.

Please help ASAP

I’ve used a few bits of custom css to modify little things:

The problem is, the instruction to hide the “Home” page title also hides the titles for my featured content.

If I remove this instruction:

.home .entry-header { display: none; }

I get my featured content titles back, but I get an ugly white block at the bottom of the page with “Home” in it. The instruction not to display home page content is ignored. How can I fix this?

To clarify: I want to hide the Home title, but keep the featured content titles.

I’d also like to add space – say 20 px – between the promo headline and the featured content. Is that possible?

1. Looks like you are using “Image Slider” as the Slider Type. In this case, you can just go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Slider => Featured Image Slider Options” and change the title for “Image Title”. This title will be used for image alt tags.

But if you want to make it different from Title then you need to create child theme. For child theme, refer to http://catchthemes.com/blog/create-child-theme-wordpress/ and then copy function adventurous_image_sliders() from adventurous-slider.php file to your child theme functions.php file and edit the alt tag as per your need.

2. It’s same for Featured Content. The image take the alt tag from “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Content => Featured Content Options”. SO, you can change the title for “Image Title”

But if you want to make it different from Title then you need to create child theme. On the home page, how can I add custom Alt tags to the images in the Featured Slider and the Featured Content?

I have 3 slider images and 4 content images and they each need different Alt tags.

@Florence: To show textbox only in selected image and then to show simple image without link, you need to upgrade to Pro version. Where you will get option to user “Featured Image Slider” instead of “Featured Post Slider”. When you select Featured Image Slider, you can upload image as per your need. Adding link and text is optional.

For font size, you can adjust the font size in the following css as per your need and then add it in “Appearance => Theme Options => Custom CSS” box:

Is it possible to show the textbox on the featured slider only on selected images (posts), and not on others?

We are actually working with free Kathmandu, and we want to use the slider to show our “hot news”(with link to a post), together with simple images without link.

Other question :
how do I change the fontsize of theses textboxes?

The Featured Slider seems to have stopped working. Whenever I activate the Demo Feature Slider it shows up as normal, but when I switch to the Featured Page Slider option it disappears completely.

I have set a feature image for all pages that I’ve tried to show in the slider. There are no error messages and no plugins of any kind running – the slides are missing from the page completely (though the menu items are visible in the html source).

I am running version 2.2 of your Catch Base theme on WordPress version 4.2.3 on a local development platform, no URL available.

@zagy07: In Catch Flames free theme, you have option to use Featured Page Slider. For that you just need to go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Slider => Slider Options” and select “Featured Page Slider” in slider type. After that, you can select the page in “Featured Page Slider Options” box. After you select and save it. It will take featured image and expert text of those pages. So, you will have excerpt text overly in slider.

If you are not talking about this then please explain in reference with your site URL.

@Simon: In your site, you have different length of text and that is causing shifting in height. I see that you have split content using more tag <!--more--> in your page. So, you have to be careful about the amount of text that you want to display. If you keep excerpt text length in all slider page then it will fix the issue. Otherwise, you can try adding in the following css in “Appearance => Theme Options => Custom CSS” box:
