Hello!
I currently have my site set to display a static page. I see that you can either select the Front page to display “Your latest posts” OR a “static page”.
If I choose a static page,… when I go to the “Posts Page” drop-down, it looks as though only my website pages appear (I don’t see my posts there.) Can you select an actual post? Or how do you create a “posts page?” (or can you only select your latest posts?) I’m a little confused about that functionality, or why “posts page” is even an option if you choose a ‘static page’ above. – I understand that if you want to display your latest posts; you select that above, in the “Front Page Displays” category.
I don’t mind manually designating what I want the front page to show (either post, or page)—but I was curious as to what the point of the “Posts Page” drop-down was if when you select the “A static page” option— the “posts page” appears to be the same options as the “Front page” drop-down.
Any info or clarification would be great.
Thanks!March 21, 2014 at 9:21 am #22099SakinKeymaster@sbartsch: Yes this is bit confusing feature in WordPress. It also took me sometime before to get full knowledge about this.
1. By default WordPress display Latest Posts in your Frontpage.
2. But sometime, people don’t want latest post to display in Frontpage which give blog looks and want to make it like company/personal site where they have static page in Frontpage. In this case, they have to go to “Readings => Settings => Front page displays” and click on “A static page (select below)” and choose page from “Front page”.
3. But sometime, people should like to show their latest posts(Blog) in another place as they have added static page in the Front page. In this case they choose the page in “Posts page” to show their blog.Read this for more details http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_Screen

Thanks for the details. I have now created and designated a “Posts page” (I titled it “news & updates.” But how do I get posts to appear on that “News & Updates” posts page?
Prior to this, I have been creating posts separately – and only using them to connect with the “Featured Post Slider.”
Is there a way to get all my posts to appear on the “News and Updates” page? Or how does that function? – I guess, how does the News and Updates page pull in the posts I publish?
Any info would be greatly appreciated whenever you have a moment.
Thanks!!!Kind regards,
SBARTSCH

March 26, 2014 at 9:32 pm #22795sbartschParticipantDear Sakin,
Sorry for the confusion!
Right now, we have our homepage set to a static page (Text “Lifetime experience awaits…)But if I want to have a separate page (maybe even menu/navigation item that is titled “our blog”or “News & Updates”) how can I create a page so it is a running list of our blog posts (so that it could be a menu item/page?)
Let me know if that helps clarify what I’m trying to say.
Many thanks!sbartsch
March 26, 2014 at 9:41 pm #22798SakinKeymaster@sbartsch: Oh so you want your page to show the blog. Then go to “Settings => Readings” in your WordPress Dashboard. Then in “Front page displays”, click on “A static page (select below)” and in “Posts page:” select the page in which you want to show the blog in.
March 26, 2014 at 10:00 pm #22802sbartschParticipantSo I’ve done what you said (yesterday) – and titled the new page “News & Updates”
but when I was reviewing it yesterday, it was blank. But when I look now: https://ieo.wp.d.umn.edu/about/news-updates/ it seems to show some of the posts. But it doesn’t seem to be showing all of the posts. Do I need to change something with the categories? Or what default posts will automatically pull into that page? For example my most recent post: https://ieo.wp.d.umn.edu/2014/03/14/2473/ doesn’t seem to show on the page?
Thoughts?
Thanks again!March 26, 2014 at 10:52 pm #22811SakinKeymaster@sbartsch: Can you go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Post Slider => Featured Post Slider Options” and un-check “Exclude Slider post from Homepage posts?” and save changes.

Yes.
Thank you! -
