Well, they were fine yesterday. But it’s back to the same routine; three pictures in the middle of the blog–the tent shot and the two preceding it– are off again. Like I said before, I’ve all but given up. I hear what you’re saying about images working fine. They all do … for a while. But invariably within a few days at the very most, a few or more will be out of sync. Interestingly, the first “Geary” post is almost error-free. I say almost because this issue has popped up there too, and probably will in the future, but I just checked it and it’s good and has been for quite a bit now. The only difference between my two blog posts is that one is working off an older algorithm and the other I assume is the latest. Sometime this summer I’ll be adding another blog post to cover an event happening this May, and we’ll see what the Adonis theme’s reaction is to that. However, my suspicion is that some glitch exists in the newer algorithm. Old vs new–that’s the only variable here.

I’ll try a different theme soon, when I can get a spare minute, and let you know the results.

    Thanks!

OK, Skandha, I give up. I went back to the “Desolation” post to check in on things and sure enough a few more photos are mismatched, ones that were fine the last time I contacted you directly above, just a handful of hours ago. Something is clearly wrong and it’s beyond me how to fix it. How can something be OK for an hour or two and then become unglued? It either works … or it doesn’t. The photos out of sync this time around, by the way, I believe were not accessed by search but were pulled straight from the galleries, as you suggested. So, at this point I’m officially saying screw it, and moving on. Going forward, I’ll fix one here and there when the mood strikes me, but it has literally become a daily chore to attempt to keep all the photos in proper alignment, and I just don’t have the patience for it anymore. If you come up with the explanation and fix as to what the hell’s going on, boy, I’d sure love to hear about it! But until then I’m just going to explore other themes and switch to another down the road, simply because I have no choice. This is just not professional, and sadly it has cost me money. And obviously I can’t recommend this theme to anyone else. In no way am I blaming you. To the contrary, it seems you’ve been bending over backwards trying to figure this thing out, and thanks for that. Catch Themes thus far is a different story.

I agree that’s probably the best way to retrieve the URL addresses–through the galleries themselves and not the search feature–but unfortunately I’ve run into the same problem using this pathway as well. Honestly, I don’t know if the problem is more or less frequently encountered through either path because at this point I’ve done these fixes so many times I’ve stopped paying attention. Just today I fixed another one in the “Desolation” blog, the second to the last photo of my wife with the peace signs, which had gotten switched around. However, the main problem with pulling the URLs straight from images in the galleries is that not all the images contained in my blogs are in my visible galleries in the first place. Unlike the main site photographic site, my blog site is geared more towards story-telling, not necessarily the display of my best photographic work. The images within my blogs–often personal in nature as you’ve seen–are there primarily to add visual support to the words, not the other way around. So, in order for me to employ the linking method you suggest it seems I’d have no choice but to put these less impressive photos in the up-front visible galleries, a place where ideally I should be showcasing my best stuff, not personal snapshots. Now, if you know of a way I can still pull the URLs from these photos I’d like to keep behind the scenes, please let me know. Again, thanks for all your help with this, Skandha. It seems things are at least far better than they were last week! All your assistance is much appreciated and I can tell you’re good at your job, but my guess is by now you probably get where my frustration is coming from when it comes to this mysterious, persistent little problem. Every few days I have to scroll through my posts to see what’s changed, and therefore what needs to be changed back. Irritating but doable when you only have a couple posts to manage, but this will be impossible when I’ve got a dozen.

Thanks, Skandha. It’s 4:09 pm PST on 4/12. I had to fix one photo in the “Desolation” blog, and everything was OK in “Geary”. That means everything is linking properly as of right now, in both blog posts. So, things are a lot better than they were a day or so ago, although still not quite there. I figured you had to have been doing something behind the curtain to create the improvement, as it seemed similar photos at times were being matched up visually, (not by filename) and I greatly appreciate the effort taken to do that. But have you discovered what the root cause is regarding these recurring linkage hiccups? Going forward, I plan on becoming more active in my blog postings, and already have post ideas stacking up. I don’t want to bother you with this issue each time I create a new post, so if there’s a better way to create the hyperlink photo connections at my end, please let me know. Or, if indeed it was just a little glitch in the system, even better, as I can then assume the problem’s been resolved. Thanks again!

OK, and now, as of 4/12 at 9:30 am PST, everything is working as it should–in both blog posts! Well, not entirely; I had to fix one on the Geary post this time, which was actually the post that had not posed any problems before today. But having to fix only one photo is progress! I don’t know if you’ve done something on your end to address this problem I’m experiencing, or if it’s just random luck that all the linkages are aligning at the moment, but the next 24 hours will probably tell. Either way, thanks, Skandha, for all your assistance with this. If it is indeed fixed, that’ll be strange but I certainly won’t complain. If it’s not fixed, I think I’ve exhausted my possibilities in terms to a solution to it and will just have to live with the flakiness of the program when it comes to this linking feature, or move on. Thanks again!

Well, it’s about six hours later on 4/11 at 7:30 pm PST and the “first photo” I mentioned directly above, which was linking properly as of 1:41 pm, is now no longer working. And I am not surprised. This is becoming extremely annoying, but on top of that I have a very important client I need to contact through this new Adonis site, within a week, and I need to have this working as it should. right. Two weeks from now I’ll be out of the country and won’t have the time to address this. I’ve fixed a couple tricky problems since signing up with Catch and this Adonis theme … except for this problem here. If you can’t come up with a clear solution to the issue, at the least I’ll have to abandon the linking feature, or maybe just try another theme with another company. I certainly don’t want to do any of that though, as aside from this obnoxious problem, I like this site. Hope you can help, and soon!

Today on 4/11 at 1:41 pm Pacific Standard Time, I fixed again the linkage for first photo in the Desolation blog, the shot of my wife standing next to the Desolation sign. I used the copy/paste method I’ve described before. As of right now it’s working fine. Everything is as it should be. If this goes as it has been going for days now, by this evening or tomorrow that correct linkage will be lost and another photo will take its place. I don’t want to go any further with the fixes, because it’s likely that will be wasted effort, as this keeps occurring, but I wanted to let you know about this first photo being fixed at the date and time I gave, so going forward you’ll maybe see the same error in the system, in real time. Thanks, Skandha!

Just to add some more information regarding this problem, I just checked the “Geary” blog post, the first of the two I have, and everything is still linking properly after a couple days. As I mentioned, that post seems to have been built using an older algorithm (I originally posted it on 9/22/17) and in Edit Mode it does appear different in terms of the edit mechanics. I think it’s called “Classic”. Anyway, so far so good there. I don’t know how to do anything differently when it comes to the second post, however, because again all I’m doing is copying the image’s URL directly from the source–my photo website–and then pasting it in the URL Link window. The linkage IDs being copied are correct, as again they initially display fine. The photo you referenced, “the image with trees” was assembled the same way, and for whatever reason it is one of the few that has remained intact in terms of the linkage. Most of the other photos in that blog post, although starting out correct, are no longer so, which you’ll see if you go through them. Is there some other pathway you can suggest to get the image’s URL other than the copy/paste method I’m using? Something is clearly being lost in translation the way I’m doing it now. Or … as I’m starting to strongly suspect, there is indeed some glitch in the system. What else could explain the fact that the linkage initially displays correctly, but then loses that correct connection after some time has elapsed? This is definitely becoming mysterious to me. I’d very much like to get to the bottom of this, because I do like the Adonis theme, but I’m on the verge of just scrapping the linking altogether, if it can’t be resolved. Seems this is a thorny problem and thanks, Skandha, for your help on this!

I’ll check this out later today and get back to you. What I still don’t understand is why the linkage initially works fine but then later on gets out of position. All I’m doing is copying the image’s URL directly from my photo website and pasting it into the URL link field, while in the WordPress edit mode. Seems if it works in the beginning it should stay that way. But again I’ll get back to you later on this and tell you where things are after following your suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, Skandha. As I mentioned in my original post, the problem doesn’t seem to come up until some time has passed. I’ve checked it hours later and everything would be fine, but the the next day the problem I described would appear. I know that doesn’t make much sense but it seems to be consistent in that way; I’ve tested it now a few times. Thanks again, and I look forward to anything you may come up with as an explanation/solution!
