I followed your directions, and the widget area appeared in the widgets page. However, when placing in the Rev Slider widget and saving it, I refreshed my homepage and nothing happened. The slider did not appear, and the page looked the same as it did before. Hm.

I enabled visibility of the widgets only to the homepage – however, alternative pages still show up with this:

Primary Sidebar Widget Area

This is the Primary Sidebar Widget Area if you are using a two or three column site layout option.

By default it will load Search and Archives widgets as shown below. You can add widget to this area by visiting your Widgets Panel which will replace default widgets.
