I have Katmandu theme, which is perfect for my needs.

But I cannot get the published view to remove the demo slider even though when setting the slider options slider type to Post, the display shows the demo slide removed.

@jrdphd: Do you want to remove the slider completely? If yes, go to Dashboard=> Appearance=> Customize=> Featured Slider and select Disable in Enable Slider option. Then click Save & Publish.
