i would like to add the cart count on the desktop version (similar to the mobile version) on the main menu for my brand new site

@gatmanu: Hello there,

Go to => Appearance => Customize => Additional CSS and add the following CSS Code.

.navigation-classic .site-header-cart .cart-contents .amount, .navigation-classic .site-header-cart .cart-contents .count {
display: inline;
}
.navigation-classic .site-header-cart .cart-contents .amount {
padding-left: 10px;
}
