I have the site default set to no side bar but how do I add one to say the post page. There doesn’t seem to be any option per page to turn on the side bar at all. I can select a side bar say ‘Optional Sidebar 3″ instead of default, but no sidebar appears even though there is something in that sidebar.
Also: On my post page
http://test.shields.ca/post-archives/
Only one category is appearing. I think they were all there at one time, but for the life of me I can’t find where I changed that setting.January 14, 2020 at 2:31 am #232779SkandhaParticipant@fireflywebs: To have sidebars on specific page

On EVERY page there is the ‘default side bar’ in this field, but no sidebar appears on ANY page even though there are widgets in that sidebar because I have the site set to ‘NO sidebar’. I don’t see how to activate the sidebar for any particular page… there doesn’t seem to be that option.Re:

January 14, 2020 at 9:00 am #232819Glen PavelichParticipantI have looked everywhere for a setting. This is a bug. All the posts except for my category called ‘recent updates’ do not appear on the post page at all. Further I have another ticket here (https://catchthemes.com/support-forum/topic/recent-posts-on-home-page/#post-232775) which is also an issue.
However, the posts were appearing on the post page I think. Now they are gone.January 14, 2020 at 9:24 am #232820Glen PavelichParticipantUpdate. One more thing.
I often use the Page Builder (Site Origin) option for ‘post loops’. It’s a page widget to call in certain post categories to a page.
When I pull that into a page I get the message
“Your theme doesn’t have any post loops.”
I have never had this before with this widget. This wasn’t attempted until now so it hasn’t been a conflict to cause the above issue.
January 15, 2020 at 9:36 am #232916Glen PavelichParticipantAll the sidebars (on each page) are not listed, only Optional one, two or three.
I am trying to get a sidebar on my post page for instance. I have a widget in ALL the sidebars in widgets, but how to turn on sidebars for the page is the issue. There is only ‘select sidebar’ and no option under page attributes for a layout. Also, note the second issue on this ticket for post loops, and the fact that all the posts but one category have disappeared.

January 15, 2020 at 7:12 pm #232940Glen PavelichParticipantMy sidebar issue only appears to involve the post page. I found the setting for the others pages under page attributes.
The other 2 issues are also part of this ticket.January 16, 2020 at 6:43 am #232998SkandhaParticipant@fireflywebs: Hello there,

The Select Sidebar option in each post/page will work if you change Template metabox option on post/page to Left or Right Sidebar. This should work.Only one category of post showing up on your site.
For that
Go to => Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Homepage/Front page Settings => Turn on Display Recent Posts/Content on homepage then you should see Categories Select Box and Select All Categories
and then you can again turn off Display Recent Posts/Content on homepage and Publish. Can you please explain what you are trying to do with Page Builder (Site Origin)?
Let me know if this resolves your issue.

I do not see a Template metabox option on the post page where there is an option of left or right sidebar. It shows only “select sidebar” and the dropdown shows default, or optional sidebar one, two, or three.’

With Page Builder turned on a page, there is a widget option called ‘Post Loop”. If you pull that widget into a page row you can then set up the post loop options you desire. IE a category of post. However, with this theme I get the message ‘your theme doesn’t have any post loops.’ I don’t understand why other Catch themes do and this one doesn’t.
January 17, 2020 at 5:22 am #233127Glen PavelichParticipantFor the post loop. I have added post loop to the About Us page as a test. If you go there you will see what I mean. See second row (click edit on the actual box that says Post Loop.)
This screen shot will show what it SHOULD allow me to do.
http://test.shields.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/PostLoopScreenShot.jpg
I took this test screen shot from another site which is using the Catch Theme “Clean Education Pro”January 17, 2020 at 11:11 am #233156Glen PavelichParticipantSee 2 comments above since your post yesterday.

And confirm for yourself that there is no option for a side bar on the Post Page.So there are about 4 bugs that need to be corrected in the next update for the template…. which I hope is very soon.
1) The home page (if a static page) will not accept a category for posts, instead it only shows them all, no matter what category is selected.
2) There needs to be a difference between what posts go on the home page and what goes on the post page. There doesn’t seem to be a way to do that since there is only the single setting on the Homepage/Front page.
3) There is no way to put a side bar on the post page. No option exists under page attributes as with the other pages.
4) Page Builder Plugin (with the Site Origin Widgets). The Post Loop Widget will not work. Error message says there is no post loop for the template, yet every other Catch template allows it. I have become accustomed to using this widget. If you can give me a work around for any of these now I would appreciate it. Can you tell me when the updated theme will be issued?
January 20, 2020 at 12:16 am #233338SkandhaParticipant@fireflywebs: Hello there,
You should be able to see the Template option in post page above the featured image option. I logged into your site and edited a page I did see the Template option there. Can you please check again?I checked your About Us page and saw some posts. Is the post loop issue resolved?
1) 2) If you want separate category option for posts on homepage and on posts page lot of customization needs to be done so if you really need I suggest you to hire a customizer to get it done.
3) I checked your site post page and Template option seems to be showing. Please check again.
4) Are you still having the issue? I check your About Us page and saw some posts there.

No there is no Template option on the post page. I have taken 2 screen shots of the side panel of the post page: http://test.shields.ca/post-archives/
See: http://test.shields.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/PostArchivesPageSidebar1.jpg
http://test.shields.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/PostArchivesPageSidebar2.jpg
There is an option to pick the sidebar, but under Page Attributes there is only “Parent” and no option to pick a template option. If you checked another page instead, and not the post page, then yes you will see the template option, but it is NOT ON THE POST PAGE.I checked your About Us page and saw some posts. Is the post loop issue resolved?
No resolved. No there is no posts on this page: http://test.shields.ca/about-us/
Page Builder is activated and I have text on this page (row 1), but the widget for post loop (added to row 2) is not functioning. If you go into the backend of this page and do an edit on the post loop block you will see the message: “Your theme doesn’t have any post loops.”If you want separate category option for posts on homepage and on posts page lot of customization needs to be done so if you really need I suggest you to hire a customizer to get it done.
As per this ticket: https://catchthemes.com/support-forum/topic/recent-posts-on-home-page/#post-232775
Where I asked:
“The feature for recent posts on the home page is a good one, but despite the fact that I have specified a category (called ‘recent updates’), all the recent posts are showing up (ie the category I called ‘Featured Content’ is also there). See http://test.shields.ca/
How can I get it to select only one category.”I got the reply:
“@fireflywebs: It looks like there is an issue selecting categories when static page option is enabled on Homepage. The issue has been fixed and the update will be released soon. Thank you for informing about the issue. Let me know if you have any more issues.”So if there is to be a new release then 1) the post page template option issue needs to be added to it, and 2) as does the post loop issue, 3) along with the option to add different categories to the post page (ie ALL posts) and to the home page a category only. This seems reasonable and would be most helpful for design.
Please confirm.
Regards.
January 21, 2020 at 11:57 am #233509Glen PavelichParticipantFurther to the above which I have not heard back on.
Essentially I am using Static Page AND the Post Page.
I changed the layout default to right sidebar, which means of course that I had to manually set the template option (to full/no sidebar) on each and every page. But I wanted to see if by doing that the right sidebar would appear on the ‘POST” page (where I do want the right sidebar). IT DID NOT. [The Post page is called ‘post archives’ on this site, and is under the home tab.]
Sorry this has all been so wordy. I hope you can tell me that the next release will fix these issues with the post pages and other issues above.
I do prefer Catch Themes and appreciate your tech support very much.
Best Regards.January 22, 2020 at 2:22 am #233591SkandhaParticipant@fireflywebs: Hello there,
I logged into your site and I see theme Template option in both posts and pages. I have attached the screenshot below:
Post Editor: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bi9uvpgl41vzcnn/post-editor.PNG?dl=0
Page Editor: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m4y4v9td0qof7zs/page-editor.PNG?dl=0Our theme does have a post loop. If you check index.php line no 70 you can see the post loop. Please try contacting plugin support regarding this. Also maybe this support link might help you out.
Regarding the separate category option the same category option was made to work for both posts on home page and posts page. To create separate category options for homepage and posts page you will need to get it done by a professinal.
Kind Regards,
Skandha
SkandhaJanuary 22, 2020 at 3:45 am #233606Glen PavelichParticipantSkandha. You continue to misunderstand the exact place I am pointing you to. Yes, the side bar is on the posts and pages, but not on the POST page. The POST page is the page one selects when you opts for static front page. When this is done you must also assigning an actual post page. I have told you where it is on the site, under the home tab, called Post Archives. THIS PAGE does not have a side bar option and this page is the actual POST page where all the post made are listed one below the other. Can you go to that page please. This is where the theme is not set up correctly to accommodate a side bar but other catch themes do accommodate this.
The category option for the home page is not working on a static page. This was confirmed by the other support person who replied to my other post. I can select my category ‘current posts’ for the home page from the list shown, but all the posts will still show up. The category selected is not over riding this.
Thank you for the post loop link. I will look into that.
January 24, 2020 at 3:25 am #233875SkandhaParticipant@fireflywebs: Hello there,
I am sorry that I misunderstood you.
This seems to be a strange issue because when you use the Classic Editor the Template option doesn’t show up but if you use the Gutenberg Editor the Template option shows up and even if the option shows up it doesn’t seem to work. Looks like a Gutenberg editor issue. When you Go to => Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Select the Category.
The selected category posts shows up both homepage and posts page depending on if you have selected your homepage as latest posts or a static page. Isn’t this working at your end?Kind Regards,
SkandhaJanuary 25, 2020 at 2:03 am #233940Glen PavelichParticipantThis is a long post, but I hope it helps you and the developer to improve this template. It has some bugs. The tone below is a friendly one.
#1 Regarding your most recent reply (and thank you for seeing what I was pointing to)…I’m not sure I would agree it’s a glutenberg issue because the template ‘Catch Inspire Pro’, with the exact same layout options and design… does not have this problem. Using the Catch Inspire Pro theme I can set the site to static front page, then create a designated ‘POST’ page, and the template option shows up and works on the designated POST page just fine.
#2 Also: (because I hope these issues will get back to the developer….)
On the ticket I posted here: https://catchthemes.com/support-forum/topic/recent-posts-on-home-page/
tikaram (Keymaster) stated the following:
” It looks like there is an issue selecting categories when static page option is enabled on Homepage. The issue has been fixed and the update will be released soon. Thank you for informing about the issue. Let me know if you have any more issues.”So I hope this is true. When will the next release be issued? Note: this also has to be fixed for Catch Inspire Pro.
#3 This problem with not being able to select categories when the static page option is enabled is only part of the issue. This is a nice feature and, if it worked, would do the same thing that I was attempting to resolve for myself by getting the “POST LOOP” problem resolved (using the Page Builder Post Loop Widget). The link you provided above was perfect (thank you for that), and except for a minor syntax error in the code provided by that smart user, the post loop issue is now fixed. [The syntax error was simply the final : needs to be ;]
I can use post loop on any page BUT NOT the static home page.
The reason I can’t use the post loop on the home page is because as soon as I convert the home page from ‘editor’ to ‘page builder’ another issue happens. It’s a huge conflict that you should know about.
With page builder active on the HOME page, (when the site is in static home page mode), ALL the text that is on the home page duplicates and jumps into any and all content boxes for any and all theme options that are turned on. In my case the CUSTOM ‘feature content’ text was replace by the home page text in all 3 columns. I have added a screen shots to show you.
http://test.shields.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/FeatureContent.jpg
This only happened if there was actual text in the Custom Feature Content ‘content’ box. If I removed that then the unexpected home page text also cleared. It took me a while to figure out what change I had made that caused this new problem. When I converted the home page back to editor, the problem was resolved.
So, I can’t therefore use the PageBuilder post loop widget on this page. The conflict does not occur when any other page is converted to Page Builder.
#4 The other thing I mentioned earlier in THIS ticket is that the ability to select categories when static page option is enabled on Homepage (when this does eventually work) is a good feature. However, that setting should not, in my opinion as a seasoned Catch Template user, affect what appears on the designated post page. One will most certainly use that feature to narrow down what shows up on the home page, and yet still want to be able to display ALL the posts on the designated Post page, because otherwise how does anyone ever get to see those other posts at all. In other words, the post page should act as it ALWAYS does on any other template, and simply show all the posts. [My primary issue with the side bar not showing up on the designated Post page is the fact that IF this setting was in fact going to affect the Post page (until this issue is fixed) then my users should at least be able to see the category widget. But this setting on the home page options (for this theme and Catch Inspire Pro) is defective and it rules both pages. It shouldn’t.
#5 The two toggles on the Homepage / Frontpage Options don’t make sense.
“Display Recent Posts/Content on homepage”
and
“Display Recent Posts on Static Homepage.”
Because if the page is not static, and set to posts, you only need to select which categories.
And if the page IS set to static you need one or the other or both but it takes trial and error to understand what these buttons do because of they way they are worded. (The are worded differently on Catch Inspire Pro… but perhaps they act differently too… I can’t narrow it down.)The top toggle does open the categories to view, but as stated above, selecting or narrowing down those categories ALSO narrows down what is shown on the designated post page, therefore making the post page redundant to the home page, instead of a useful site page. So besides that issue I think the wording of the toggles could be improved to better explain what they do.
I hope these suggestions help to compile the bugs all in one place so improvements can be made.
Regards
Glen
PS. I have purchased many Catch Templates to build WP sites for my clients, but have never taken up so much of your time as with this one, LOL 😛 -
