Since you are using the theme the background color can be changed from the customizer it self.

Go to => Appearance => Customize => Color Options => Featured Content Color Options => Background Color => Select the color of your choice and Publish.

Now, to show the widgets in the footer area in the sidebar of your posts you will need to

All the section works with pages. You can select type as Page and select the pages you would like to show up in the particular section.

To have a horizontal row with logos you can use the Scrolling Section as the Logo Slider section is not available in this theme.
Go to => Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Scrolling => Select type and select the posts.

To use categories you will need to use post.
Categorize your post into different categories and
Go to => Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Trending => Select type as Categories and select your categories.
