I want to know if I can change the default black to a different color?

Also, how can I change the footer text without a child theme (I have no clue what it is).

@aurum: The option to change default color and edit footer is only available in pro version of the theme. I suggest you to upgrade to pro. You can check out the additional-features available in pro version of theme.

Alternately, you change the default color using a bit of additional CSS Code but to edit the footer text you will need to create a child theme and make few changes. Since you do not know much about child theme I suggest you to upgrade to pro.
