    Hi,

I was attempting to install a custom code for Woocommerce(sale code) in my functions.php and after I clicked ‘update’ I got the following message:

Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.

After that the entire file went blank. I’ve tried pasting the functions.php file from my offline backup but I keep getting the same error.

    Please help!

    Thanks!
    -Adam

I managed to fix the issue(at least I think) by uploading the code from my offline copy using my FTP. Still, I’m not sure what happened or if it will happen in the future so please, any insight to the cause of this would be very much appreciated.

    Best,
    -Adam

@alwelch1: I suggest you not to edit core theme directly as all your customization and edits will be lost when you update the theme to the latest version. If you need to make any edits or customization to core theme files I suggest to you use a Child Theme. You can use Generate Child Theme Plugin to create a child theme.

    Kind Regards,
    Skandha
