Hi, I need to create an archive page as my client’s posts have grown.

I used to just put a wordpress.com shortcode on a new page — but I was wondering if there is a best method for creating an archive page.

I would prefer not to make a separate template.

is it okay to use the wp.com shortcodes w/ catch themes?

    thanks J

@macwebster: Sorry I don’t understand your question. Can you explain it more like the type of shortcode you are trying to add it and what you want to do with it.

Hi Sakin, well, slight delay in getting to this…

I was interested in using the wordpress.com short code:

[archives format=html] to get an unordered list of my client’s posts.

    the site is http://www.arthope.org

I see there is an archives.php in the catchbox pro themes folder. If the wp.com shortcodes is not a solution you recommend, I am willing to make an archives.php page template.

Is there documentation about this as it relates to catch themes?

Thanks and keep up the great work, J

@macwebster: WordPress.com shortcode will not work in WordPress.org. These two are different. Some of the featured and shortcode used in WordPress.com can be achieved by activating Jetpack plugin http://jetpack.me/. So check that.

For building your own archive page template. You need to build child theme and then edit the functions as per your need there. For child theme, check out http://catchthemes.com/blog/create-child-theme-wordpress/
