ParticipantSo, so, so sorry to have gotten frustrated with you all. I sat down and thought about what else might have had a major update at that time. Yup. Elementor took over my old accessibility plugin with something called Ally right about then. . . and destroyed my search function.
Thank you again and I am so sorry for getting upset with you. I’m going to be traveling for the next month, so was in full panic mode, but that is not a good excuse. But I think I would be within my rights to be mad at Ally!
I’ve stayed with Catch themes for years (and just used a free theme on a demo site for a club I’m in) because the customer service has always been so good and I like the theme I’m on. So thanks.

ParticipantAh. The power of coincidence! Ok. I’ll do a check and see if something changed in a plugin that is causing it.

ParticipantThe only thing I get under the header right sidebar option is to disable the entire sidebar.

ParticipantWon’t that disable the entire sidebar?
I just want a usable search function to show up at an easy to get to spot on mobile. That should be a give.
And that original code disabled the search function completely on both mobile and desktop.

ParticipantWell, it takes the code when I do it from the Theme file editor, but it doesn’t seem to actually add search to the menu. And nothing else in my Isn’t there a cleaner way to do this? Like adding it to the menu? Isn’t there an option to change how the site looks on mobile vs desktop that would address this?

ParticipantDoes this just go in the additional CSS in the customizer? (It looks so different from everything else there)

ParticipantI’m not sure what the issue was, but it’s fine now. Thanks.

ParticipantI did some testing on other pages and am going to let this go for now, however:
The problem is EDITING EXISTING pages. New pages and all posts work fine. This page looks fine to a reader, but I can’t add additional images where needed when editing. They all default to the top of the page no matter where I insert them.
I did more testing and other pages I tested are working properly. That seems to indicate a bug in the code for this particular page: https://explorationvacation.net/exploring-usa/minnesota-travel-guide/minnesota-state-park-travel-guide/
Obviously I can insert the image at the top, copy the code, and paste the code where I want the image to appear — this is a pain because this is a very long page.
I was hoping you’d be able to spot something in the code on this particular page that got messed up – this page is 10 years old and updated many times, so there’s lots of opportunities for something to break.
However, if it’s really just this one page, I can work around the problem for now. I’ll be updating a lot of old pages this year, so if I run into this elsewhere I will need it fixed then.

April 28, 2023 at 10:41 am in reply to: memory error in WordPress 6.8 in Catch Responsive Pro #317800cindy
ParticipantIt wasn’t a problem until I upgraded WordPress. (And I have 1 gig of memory.) I’m guessing it’s going into an infinite loop, which seems to be a theme issue. https://round2begins.com/wordpress-update-critical-error-problem/ Can you check and make sure that’s not the issue?
cindy
ParticipantYeah, several things changed to the default. But I think I found and fixed them now. You can close this one.
Thanks.cindy
ParticipantAny thoughts on this? I’d like to try just using the thumbnails generated by WordPress. If I find there is something I can’t address that way, then I can look at that issue separately.
Thanks.cindy
ParticipantI don’t think I need or want the theme to create any thumbnails.
I can generate the 200×200 thumbnails I’m using for the featured content through WordPress. I can also get a few intermediate sizes I use through WordPress sizes. Anything else that needs to be an odd size is properly sized before uploading.
cindy
ParticipantThanks Skandaha!
(You can keep my money:-)Is there something I need to be doing differently (aside from not using a full-size image)? This time I even made sure to load the image with the default setting at 200×200 – and it didn’t help.
Sorry about the spam – I didn’t really occur to me that you’d have a lot of that on a support forum, but I suppose they’ll do that anywhere.
cindy
ParticipantAnd WHY are support comments being moderated? Is that a way of controlling complaints?

ParticipantI don’t recall what was causing this (or if I ever figured it out), but the issue is resolved and this one can be closed.
