That option works for only for products on the shop page. Can you make sure if you are checking on the Shop page?

I checked at my end and the fonts seems to be changing fine in the customizer. Can you deactivate all the plugin you are using and check if the fonts change? Also please post in your site URL so that I can look into the issue.

I suggest you to create a child theme before editing any core theme files as all the changes will be lost when you update the theme to the newer versions.
