The slider appears below the Header Media if you have both enabled. You can change the order of the section by using the Section Sorter option.

For that,
Go to => Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Section Sorter

2. Do you mean to have a fully black background instead of the partial image that is visible?

The option to have separate header image for pages is only available in pro version of the theme. I suggest you to upgrade to pro. You can check out the additional-features available in pro version of the theme.

You won’t loose any of your child theme customization when you update the pro theme. The changes made in the update will be added to the Pro theme and your child theme will not change.
