Hey everyone. I come from drupal where I used to write and design my own templates based on a good responsive template. I would just adapt what is necessary, colors, page layouts and so on but e. g. the navigation would more or less stay the same.

So my decision to choose a template is not primary how it looks (because I can change that) but rather how well it is coded/built (responsive and fast e. g. without heavy javascript) since I can’t start from scratch.

I will adapt the template for a niche news site.

What are some templates that are best practices and you would recommend? Thank you very much in advance.

@roberts : Our themes and plugins are fast and secured as we follow the coding standard properly. We have responsive designs for themes that can fit on any screen sizes, You can choose from a wide variety of theme that we have listed on our site.

If you are looking for a news site you can follow the following link where you can choose a suitable magazine theme for your site. Let me know if you have any more queries.

    Regards,

There are so many website where you can choose free themes. You can do it from catch-themes, I have recently launched a education based website cipd assignments so for this first I choose a theme from this website then developed it on custom Php. You can also do this and also direct download free theme through catch-themes a well know theme services providing website. Mostly all theme in this website are fully responsive so don’t worry about responsive issue just select and start working.
