@ingoz: What you can do is Go to => Dashboard => Edit the Post => At the top you will see Screen Options => Check and Enable Excerpt Option

After Enabling Excerpt Option you will see an excerpt box below the Text Editor.
There you can enter the text you want to display as excerpt for that post.

@ingoz: When you open the post it does look like the way you want it to. In the archive page the text gets compact and all the line breaks are ignored. I don’t you can do much with it.

@evergreenw60: You can either Zip the theme folder you have downloaded and then upload it or try re-downloading the .zip file using browsers other than Safari. I think then it won’t automatically unzip the file.
