Go to => Appearance => Menus => On top right you will see Screen Options => Click on Screen Options and Check the option Link Target under Show advanced menu properties.

Then,
Below on Select a menu to edit and Select your menu on Select.

Finally click on your menu items and check the option Open in New tab and Save Menu.

Can you reset your WordPress if you have just starting creating your site.

Then activate the plugins Essential Content Types and Catch Themes Demo Import. Then try importing the demo content once again.
