You can use the Social Icons option in the theme for that.

To add social icons on the header or footer
Go to => Appearance => Customize => Menus => View All Location => Header Social Menu/Footer Social Menu => Edit Menu => Add Items => Custom Links => Insert the link to your Social Media and Text and Publish.

You seem to have figured out to remove the white space on all page.

TO make the featured image larger
Go to => Appearance => Customize => Additional CSS and replace the above code I provided with the Code below.

.custom-header {
    height: 100vh;
}

You can change the height according to your choice.
