MichaelaParticipant
Thanks Sakin, the CSS code you gave me you worked and it looks prettier now.
But I think I’ll go for the link option, as this better fits the general style of the site.
I know how to create these text widgets, but to which page do I have to link it, to allow the reader to search the full archive? Do I need to set up one myself, and then add links for all the months I have published posts? That would be quite some work, and a lot of maintenance. Is there an easier way?MichaelaParticipantUfortunately, it doesn’t depend on the widget. I use mainly “text” and “image widget” widgets. All of them have a title which is visible on the front-end, but not on the back-end. The only thing I see in my widget panel is “text” or “image widget”. No clue about the title, which makes it a frustrating search to find the one you want to edit.
MichaelaParticipantThanks for the “image center” tip, that works!
MichaelaParticipantHi Sakin,
the problem is that even pictures with a size of 200kb are shown blurred. Of course, if I upload 900kb big pictures, they look good. But that’s not what you should do on a website as it will slow the loading down and use a lot of space. Also, the quality only needs to be really good in the slider, but not on top of a post. Any thoughts how I can compress pictures to a small size and keep quality?
Cheers
MichaelaParticipantHi Sakin,
thanks a lot for the info.
I looked for some plug-ins that do the job, and I list them here so others with the same problem can use this solution:
For 1. Use the Jetpack feature “Jetpack comments” for the website
For 2. Use the Jetpack feature “subscriptions”MichaelaParticipantHi Sakin,
thanks a lot for this solution. However, I always write all my changed codes in a css stylesheet belonging to my child theme (less loading time than when inputting in the internal Custom CSS box). When I put your code in there, it’s not working. I already tried putting #main in front of it, but it’s not working either. Any ideas?
Cheers
MichaelaParticipantGreat answer, thanks a lot, it works.
MichaelaParticipantBeautiful. That works. Thank you so much.
So just for my better understanding: when do I need to add this #main thing? Because all my other stuff works when I had put it from the Custom CSS to the child stylesheet? (I did so as it reduces loading time)MichaelaParticipantThat was it! Thank you so much!
MichaelaParticipantHi Sakin,
this is weird. I work on a netbook with a screen width of 1024px. And my sidebar is definitely wider than 204px. When I use the Firefox plugin “Pixelzoomer” to measure the size of the sidebar, it gives me a value of 340px (=20px padding left, 300px content, 20px padding right). This is way too big for me, as the rest width for my real content on the left is only 480px (550px – 30px padding left – 40px padding right).
I would like to have the following set up:
– padding for each of the sidebar elements: 10px all around
– margin between sidebar elements: 20px
– sidebar element content width: 160px (no matter which computer screen size)
– main content on the left side should always be as wide as possible (total screen size -160px -twice 10pxHow can I do this?
Thanks a lot for your help and best regards,
MichaelaMichaelaParticipantHi Sakin,
the long code you gave me above for making the right sidebar smaller worked fine for 2 months, until a few days ago. Do you know what could have happened? I did not make any changes, but now the right sidebar on my website (e.g. http://travelintense.com/equipment/camping-gear/stove/) is way too wide. It should just be wide enough to accomodate adds that are 160px wide.
Thanks a lot for your help!
P.S.: Please delete any of my weblinks to my site after you read it.
MichaelaParticipantHi Sakin,
thanks for the padding tip, it works on large screens at least (small ones don’t react).
However, the second tip doesn’t work. I would like to be on the following page for example: http://travelintense.com/equipment/camping-gear/stove/. And then the “Equipment” word in the navigation bar above should be highlighted in white (black font). Any other ideas how to achieve this?Thank you very much!
MichaelaParticipantThanks a lot Sakin, that worked.
MichaelaParticipantThanks a lot Sakin.
P.S.: Please remove the link to my website in my last message.MichaelaParticipantHi Sakin,
I had added my email address just the way you described, but that did not work. I left it in my settings, so you could check if that’s a general issue for users.
But for my site, I would actually like to have people directed to contact form when they click on the envelop icon. I won’t need the social link “WordPress”, so we could use this one.
Please remove link after having seen it.
Thanks a lot.MichaelaParticipantWell, I put in my real email address and it didn’t work…
But I like the second option better anyway. What’s your email address I can send my URL to?
Thanks a lot!MichaelaParticipantOk, understood. But why am I then redirected to an error page when I click on the envelop icon? The url shows http://www.example.com/contact@example, the message is the standard 404 “Oooops…”. Is this wanted?
I could of course set up a page for http://www.example.com/contact@example, but then this also means my email address is not spam safe anymore, as my email address is included in the url and therefore visible.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!MichaelaParticipantI’m so sorry Sakin. I forgot to publish it. Now it should be visible. Thanks a lot!
MichaelaParticipantI guess because I have the same problem with both plug-ins it must be a Catch Themes issue. Please check this page and let me know how I can fix this: http://travelintense.com/?page_id=30
MichaelaParticipantI did a little research and found a great plugin for adding links to a normal WP gallery: WP Gallery Custom Links
