@bryma: To activate the feature of portfolio in free version you need to follow the steps
step 1: First install Essential Content Type plugin.
Step 2: In Dashboard you can see portfolio icon, Add the project over there
Step 3: Go to=> Appearance=> Customize=> Theme Options=> Portfolio=> Enable It
Step 4: Select the project you have previously added in portfolio
Step 5: Save/publish it

Step 1: Go to the edit page/post
Step 2: (On right hand side you can see Feature Image metabox)Set Featured Image
Step 3: Save/Update

Step 1: Select the column size of the testimonials
Step 2: Select the type from where you want to display the testimonials: Page/Post/ Custom/Category/Custom Post Type
Step 3:Number of item show: Increase the number as per your requirement.
Step 4: Save and Refresh the page
Step 5: Fill up the data
Step 6: Save/ Publish it
