It would be great if there was a way to insert javascript into the blog footer without editing footer.php. For example, I use Amazon’a quick linker widget. You can place the javascript in a text box widget placed in the footer area, but that creates an empty box.

@stephennewton: This is very simple. From your WordPress Dashboard go to
Appearance -> Webmaster Tools -> Webmaster Site Verification Code. Then add your script in “Analytics, site stats footer code” box.

The JavaScript I’m inserting does fit the heading ‘Webmaster Site Verification Code’, which is why I missed this feature. Perhaps it would be worth re-naming this something more obvious like ‘Header and Footer Code Inserts’ with individual options becoming ‘Header Code (e.g. JavaScript, analytics’ and ‘Footer Code (e.g. JavaScript, analytics’
