Is it possible to use the Catch slider to show a series of images from the media library that are not necessarily ‘featured images’? ie. just a simple slideshow on an arbitrary page. Maybe with a shortcode.

Since you are using Catch Responsive Pro version, this feature is available. You can Setup Featured Image Slider to show a series of images from the media library. Instructions to add Featured Image Slider is here.

Unless I’m misunderstanding you can only add the slider to either the home page or every page — I’d like to add it to a single page that is not the home page. I’ve since found the Meta Slider plugin which seems to work fine and has styling that’s pretty similar to Catch Responsive, so I’m all set now.

Yes, you are right, the Featured Slider only has those options. You can use child theme to customize it, but since you have already replaced it with a plugin, I am going to skip that part.
