    I am not sure that I have set up my site/page correctly or not… currently the pictures and related commentary on the initial splash page show up each as blog post entries… I am not sure if that is correct or not.

    I guess what I would like to have is a second blog that can actually be the blog that we write too.

    @mybrokenjeep: For this, you can just create two pages,1. Front page and 2) Blog page from “Pages => Add New”.
    Then, you can assign that pages as Front Page and Posts Page. For that go to “Appearance => Customize => Static Front Page”, just check on “A static page” and then select the page.
