My web site is http://appletechtalk.com. I am using the free version of Simple Catch 3.8.1, with a child theme and it is using PHP 7.4.

I have been advised by my hosting company that I should update my PHP version to 8.1. When I updated the PHP version on the hosting site, the formatting of my site gets messed up. The site no longer goes to the edges of the screen, the formatting is changed and only a couple of the posts on my Home page are visible rather than the entire page.

Can you help me figure out why I cannot update my PHP version beyond 7.4?

    Thanks.

@dschwartzer : Can you please provide more details regarding the issue. Do you get any error messages or warnings ? Please try deactivating the child theme as well.

    Regards,
    Tikaram

@tikaram: Thank you for your response. I do not get any error messages or warnings. Per your suggestion, I did disable the Child Theme and used the “official” version of Simple Catch and it appears the problem does NOT occur when I upgrade the PHP version to 8.1.

I do not have a lot of custom code in the child theme. Do you have any suggestions on why this may be happening?

    Thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    David

@dschwartzer : It looks like there is some issue with your child theme code. I will contact you shortly so that I can check the child theme code of your site and provide you the required fix.

    Hi Dschwartzer,

Hope so you’re doing well, formatting of your website after updating to PHP version 8.1 may be due to compatibility problems between your Simple Catch theme and the new PHP version. To resolve this, ensure you have the latest theme and plugin updates, check theme compatibility with PHP 8.1, test with a default theme, debug for errors, and consider consulting a developer for assistance. Always back up your website before making changes.

Hope so this will help you a lot!

    Regards,

    Bryce June
