    I can’t believe I can’t work this out.

Here’s what I want to do:

    1. Set the home page to only show posts from a certain category – this is done, no problem

    2. Assign another page, to be called News & Events, for all the other posts in any category, as you would get if you set a posts page in ‘Settings > Reading’ in the standard WordPress set up.

    The temporary URL is: http://s464716271.websitehome.co.uk/sys/

    Please help!

@steve519: Sorry there no option to assign page with category. But there are plugins through which you can achieve this featured. Please search in http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Thanks for the reply, that’s a shortcoming of an otherwise very good theme in my opinion.

@steve519: Noted down. But why don’t you just add the category in the menu through Custom Menu “Appearance => Menu”.

I don’t really understand how that helps me, sorry. In any case, once I have finished developing the site it will be handed over to the customer and I don’t really want to be adding any more steps in for them to edit their website if I can help it. This is why I was looking for the standard automatic post to blog page function.

I have solved it with a plugin, but again I prefer to keep those to the absolute minimum for performance reasons. I’m not keen on having to use posts for the main image slider either, but I can work around that. I would have preferred something dedicated to that in the theme options panel.

My personal rule of thumb is that a new theme should ideally maintain the basic functionality of the default WordPress theme, and add its own features on top – without losing anything.

That’s not to run down the Catch Everest theme which is very generous in its features. And my customer likes it. If not for this issue though, I probably would have been curious enough to buy the Pro version for future use. You do have good support though, so anything less than a five star rating would be churlish.

@steve519: Thanks and I have take that in consideration about posting blog posts to page. We nee to think about it for advance users like you. But for basic users, they will get confused with posts, pages, and categories, if I mix it all. So, maybe I will add this option in Pro version with Enable function in Theme Options panel.
