Hello!
Adventurous Pro (3.1)
WPML (3.2.2)
WPML string translation (2.2.2).Sites main language: Swedish
Sites second language: English
Sites admin language: SwedishI enter Promotion headline in English
I translate Promotion headline to Swedish using WPML String translation.Everything works fine. Swedish start page shows Swedish promo headline, English start page shows English promo headline.
But! If I go back to Theme options / promo headline then the Swedish texts are back in the form!?
Am I doing something wrong here? It would be quite convenient if the english texts stayed in place!
Same thing happens for Featured content!
best regards Johan
August 23, 2015 at 10:53 am #64957SakinKeymaster@Haydie: For plugin support, we recommend you to use plugin support forum. For WMPL plugin it’s https://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support/
As per my knowledge, it should be string translation and it’s documented in https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/
August 23, 2015 at 3:12 pm #64986HaydieParticipantYou need to look into this! The error occurs in the theme admin pages!
The Theme options / promotion headline form incorrectly picks up the Swedish strings after the original English strings have been translated! Same thing with featured content.
My guess. Site admin language other than English is the problem here. Have you tested that?
I doubt it’s a wpml plugin error. If it is then the string translation form should mix up the different language versions of the strings. But it doesn’t.
I can try to switch site admin language to English just to see if the error remains. (Though English for admins is not an option for production).
And sure I can post a support request to wpml.
Best regards Johan
August 23, 2015 at 3:34 pm #64989SakinKeymaster@Haydie: If that is not WPML issue then try disabling plugin and check in. If theme works fine without plugin then it’s not theme issue. If theme has compatibility issue with WPML then they need to send us the fix then only we will be able to add in as Adventurous Pro theme was tested in my WPML team and added in compatibility. See this https://wpml.org/theme/adventurous/.
Also I check in Swedish in demo site from WPML at http://theme-testing.wpml.org/adventurous/ and the promotion headline is working fine.
August 23, 2015 at 11:35 pm #65030HaydieParticipantHello again!
I’ve done some more testing! The bug occurs when sites default language is a language other than English. Did you try that?
theme-testing.wpml.org/adventurous/ has English as default language.
See the bug by doing this:
– Set WPML default language to Swedish
– Set the promotion headline to some value in English (according to WPML docs it should be in English)
– Translate it to Swedish using WPML String translation
– Verify Swedish start page http://the.site/ (has correct Swedish value)
– Verify English start page http://the.site/en (has correct English value)
And to see the bug:
– Go back to Theme options / Promotion headline
– The value has changed to the Swedish translation
– The English value should be there!Theme picks up strings correctly in two places (start page in eng & swe), incorrectly in another place (theme options)!
It just has to be a theme issue!
best regards Johan
August 24, 2015 at 9:56 am #65052SakinKeymaster@Haydie: Sorry we will not be able to check this issue. I will also contact WPML team for this. As we don’t know the issue and if it’s plugin issue then they need to fix it otherwise they will send us compatibility code which we will add in theme.
Thanks and hope you understand the issue.
Also as per my knowledge, the admin section will have default language text and other language will be there in string management. Not in theme options panel. Theme Option panel will only have one language of text.
August 25, 2015 at 12:00 pm #65212HaydieParticipantHi again!
I’m sorry if I’m not giving up on this one…
According to the WPML String translation documentation all strings should be entered in English even if default language is not English (and even if English is not used at all on the site).
See String translation doc/ Chapter “Original language of strings”.
If I enter Swedish in Theme options, these are shown as if they were English strings in WPML String translation and are expected to be translated to Swedish which makes no sense.
Anyway…
If it’s a WMPL issue then the error would appear with the built in Text widget as well. But it doesn’t.
Try it yourself
– Swedish as default language
– Built in text widget
– Title and text in english
– Translate with WPML str.tr.
– Site shows correct texts in both languages
– Widget admin area still shows title and text in english
– Widget admin area does NOT flip title and text to Swedish as in Adventurous / Theme options!I really hope you can sort this out together with WPML. The promo headline and featured content features can’t be used if default language is other than English. Sorry!
best regards Johan
August 25, 2015 at 11:44 pm #65236SakinKeymaster@Haydie: Sorry but we don’t have any control on settings with WPML, they need to suggest us the changes if there is theme issue. I have already contacted WPML team to check in, they haven’t responded in yet.
So, as per the documentation from WPML you need to add All the text in theme options panel as “English” language. That is what I am saying. Theme Options panel will have only one language.
August 26, 2015 at 2:32 am #65272HaydieParticipantHi!
I have filed a support issue at WPML as well. They will look into it (I have provided them with login information).
Thanks for your patience!
best regards Johan
August 28, 2015 at 12:40 am #65437SakinKeymaster@Haydie: WPML team doesn’t offer technical support via e-mail and they support through their forum. So, please start your own thread at https://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support/
If you need to directly email to representative of WPML to know the process then you can email at mercedes.b[at]icanlocalize[dot]com
Thanks
August 30, 2015 at 5:07 pm #65616HaydieParticipantHello!
I have posted a support request at the wpml.org forums.A guy named Abdallah from their support staff has logged in to my site and verified the bug.
The issue is escalated to their compatibility team.
best regards Johan
August 30, 2015 at 9:09 pm #65621SakinKeymaster@Haydie: Thanks… Hope they will come with solution soon. Thanks
October 5, 2015 at 10:10 pm #67926HaydieParticipantHello!
Did you get any feedback on this one from WPML?They’re pretty silent when I ask if they have a solution.
This really needs to be fixed. Or else you should consider removing the “WPML ready” info from the theme info page.
The theme is only WPML compatible if you have english as default language! Not for the rest of us…
best regards Johan
October 6, 2015 at 7:42 am #67958SakinKeymaster@Haydie: Sorry, I haven’t got any email from them. If it was our theme issue then they will contact us. So, I guess its from their side and they are fixing it in plugin updates.
