Hi, I have updated my blog perfecting50.co.uk and now am having problems adding links. Using the picture icon to add links I get the screen to add the address of the web page I want to link to and chance to add my chosen text for it and I check the box for it to open a new window and then click insert/update and I see my chosen word in “blue” and the address, but when I save, it doesn’t save ? I also sometimes get two of the text boxes to add the link address to and cannot remove it. Either way it doesn’t save my links. Can you help ?

Many thanks

Sure, on my last blog on gardening I have a link on the word greenworks. I want another link on the word QVC linking to a different page.

But when I add the link it doesn’t save. Initially the word QVC shows up blue indicating a link is there and when you hover over it it shows the link, but when I save it it goes black again and the link is lost.

Thank you

@helpme: Did you put the link in the following format?
QVC should have worked fine as the link for Greenworks is working. Do you get any error or something? Try changing the theme to default WordPress theme and try to do the same and check if it works.

It took me ages to get the Greenworks link to work and still don’t know why this one worked and I can’t get the QVC one to work. I don’t know how to add a format, but I just click where I want to add the link and then click on the icon to “add web link”. This comes up with a window to edit/insert link. I paste in the web address and add the text I want to use and then check the box to say open in a new window and click insert.

This usually works and turns the text in my blog to blue showing there is a link. But the problem comes when I save the post or preview the post and the link disappears. For some reason the “save” is not working.

@helpme: That works fine too. Its kinda strange that its not working. Have you tried switching the theme to default WordPress theme and do the same. Please try it and let me know further.

Ok thank you I will try that. Just to check that won’t mess up my website will it – will I be able to switch back to this theme without damaging my existing pages layout etc ?

Thanks,

@helpme: Yes you can switch back to this theme again anytime. It won’t affect pages layout. Just switch the theme and do a quick check on the issue exist on the other theme too. Then you can switch back to the current theme again.

Hi I switched themes and it doesn’t work in that theme either. I did start a new blog and managed to successfully add a link, then tried to add another one on the same page but that one did not work !! It seems like there is a glitch in the system.

@helpme: Please try disabling plugins if you are using any and check again. If that didn’t help either then there is some issue in your WordPress Core. Please try reinstalling the fresh copy of WordPress and try again.
