widget problems

Hi, i HAVE A PROBLEM INSTALLING WIDGETS ON MY SIDE BARS AND FOOTERS...THEY JUST DONT SEEM TO BE GOING TO THE PLACE THEY SHOULD...IM NOT SURE WHY. I tried adding an archive link to my primary sidebar but it appears at the bottom of the page as opposed to on the sidebar. Can anyone help ?
