Widget and page spacing

Hi there, Is it possible to reduce the space between widgets on the side bar? and between the side bar itself and the posts? and a bit off topic: how do I add a picture to the "text" widget? I've seen it on another website with the same theme but can't do it myself. Many thanks! Erica
