Why can't I view galleries?

Hi I'm rebuilding a website for a friend to replace one I built in HMTL (via Dreamweaver) about 7-8 years ago. It's my first time using word press so I'm a novice and am probably missing something REALLY obvious... but... I have created a couple of dummy pages for the gallery to test it out however the galleries widget does not display on the sidebar (it is located between the map and testimonials on the widgets settings page) and there is no link on the menu bar across the top to galleries (would love to be able to do both of these). http://t-v-s.aliverelocate.com/ I originally already had a holding page called 'gallery' created before activating the theme - could this have caused a bug? http://t-v-s.aliverelocate.com/gallery exists but I have no way of directing people to it other than adding in a url link to text on a page. I'm sure I'm missing something basic but it is driving me mad!
