Video in Hero Content

I'm trying to embed a Youtube Video in the Hero Content- when I show a page's full content, the video appears next to the featured image, which I don't want, and when I embed using custom content, it doesn't recognize short codes, or the youtube embed code. Is there anything I can do to get a video to show up cleanly?
