Static homepage but with all the features of the default

Hi, Is it possible to set up the homepage to use some static intro copy, rather than just showing a specific post? We don't want it to say 'read more' on the homepage. We can kind of accomplish this via static content option, but then we lose the slideshow and the featured content widgets?
