Sidebar – not allowed to edit

Hi All,   I want to edit the right sidebar. When I go to the menu, there is no where to edit the sidebar in layout. When I go to widgets and I try to edit the sidebar there hitting save, I get a JSON error. Anyone able to help?   All the best   Michelle
