Sidebar and Recent pots name change

Hi there, Is there any way to rename "RECENT POSTS" to Announcement and news? also would like to add a sidebar to the pages/post/portfolio, I tried to change the "Template" and put default template on the page but still cannot see any sidebar, your assistance would be much appreciated, thanks.
