Shortcodes only appear on a new line

Hello, I am trying to have a shortcode appear on the same line as some text. In Wordpress, I have the article written like: Did you like this article? [shortcode for a social media button] however when viewing the published article, the button that is called by the shortcode always appears on a line below the text, as if I had inserted a line break between the text and the shortcode. This is despite there being ample room for the button to be displayed on the same line. Is this problem caused by the theme? If so, how do I fix it? It occurs with multiple shortcodes made by different developers, and I haven't been able to find anything in Wordpress.org's support about it. Thanks.
