secondary menu showing in home page of desktop website

When I select a menu as "secondary", it shows up on my home page on the website as well as on my mobile, and I had thought it should only show up on the mobile. I'm not able to clarify anything about this from existing documentation I've seen. Would appreciate some help with this. Thanks,
