Search & Archive Sidebar Widget

Hi, Is there a way to shut off the Search & Archive Widget from the Sidebar? I can put them in the bottom like I want but even after I removed the Widgets from the Sidebar those 2 still appear there. There must an override somewhere. Thanks! -Doren
