Restrict Excerpt Size in Featured Content areas

How would I go about restricting the size of the excerpt in the Featured Content areas? It appears to be grabbing the first three sentences. I would like for it to only grab the first 1-2 sentences. Is there any plans to allow one to simply enter the content they want for those three areas? Instead of the excerpt? Thanks! mk
