Remove Featured Post Slider

I'd like to remove the Featured Post Slider at the top of the home page. I'd like to also move the page title above the navigation menu. I'm using a child theme for the site. I tried removing "slider" entries in the main theme's style.css, which had no effect. Any thoughts? Regards, Jason Bennett
