read more not working on pages in catch base theme

hi, i'm using the latest version of the catch base theme on wordpress 4.8.1. on some of my static pages, I wanna add the read more functionality. unfortunately this doesn't work... my sourcecode on this page is: text..... <!--more--> somemoretext.... just shows up as text somemoretext any ideas how to get this working? upgrade on catch base pro needed? thx in advance, r.
