Place social icons on top of page / overlaying header image

Hi folks of this forum, I'm not quite an expert so I'm sorry if ti's not a too smart question. I would like to place the social media-buttons at the top of the Homepage, as an overlay on the header image. What I tried is to use the promotional headline in custom mode [catchthemes_social_icons] and dragged it to the top of the page via section sorter. It kind of works, but first it moves down the header image and second it is quite a cumbersome workaround for this half-success of a simple thing. Can anyone help? Maybe additional css is needed, but I don't really know how to point the section to be modified. Thanks
