Open JPG’s in new tab when placed directly on Home Page

Hi, I'm trying to have my website open Home Page images in a new Tab when clicked on. I tried editing the HTML directly and adding target="_blank" but when I save it, I get "this block contains unexpected or invalid content" and have to recover the Block How do I get an image (linked to the media file) on the Home Page to open in a new Tab?
