New menu items automatically added

Not sure if this is a theme problem, or a problem with WordPress core. Today I noticed that four pages I've recently created have been added to my menu at the top of the site. I do NOT have "Auto Add Pages" check-marked on the Appearance page. Additionally, the pages are NOT listed amongst the menu items which I can modify. I tried adding one of the errant items, saving the menu, and then removing it. However, that didn't help.
