Navigation Menu Appearance

How can I get my nav menu to look like this http://knackstudios.com/studio/ I've removed all the custom css that might affect my menu and also changed the menu and text color in theme options. Shouldn't the basic color options in theme options allow me to change the color? I'd like to keep the custom css simple with maybe just a font change. Can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong??
