Meta Data/login and Header sidebar + links

Hi How can I change the Meta Data/login box so that the Wordpress.org and RSS,etc does not appear. All I want is a very simple login box for members. I also can't get the header sidebar to work as I would like to put the login in there if possible. Oh and I have read all the posts on changing the link color, but can't get that to work either. What I would like is to change the font size and color of the 'read more' and also to either underline or highlight a link. Any help would be much appreciated.
