Menu Height & Home Page Removal

Please can you tell me how to reduce the height of the main menu using CSS? Also, is there a way of removing the home page's actual box that you write in? The bit where you go to "pages" > "home" > "edit". I don't need that box to show on the front page anymore, but want everything else to remain: header, slider, menu, background image and Featured content etc.
