HTML stripped from Excerpt on Homepage

love the theme, thanks! i am finding custom html in a post is being stripped from excerpts on the homepage. in this case, i have a basic superscript that is not displaying. can anyone advise? http://erlangernow.org/ pw: erlBLOG45 it's the second excerpt. you can see the full sized "1" instead of the superscript, which displays properly in the post itself. i've read that some theme's function.php has a strip_tag directive, but can't find anything like that in catchbox. thanks!
